LY13-A Antifoulant for marine paint |
| I.Brief introduction |
Since the beginning of sailing when our human beings made efforts to manufacture ships, the great harm caused by ocean attaching organisms have not been eliminated and we have to continue long-term struggle. In the process of navigation and docking, the ships painted by ordinary coating, including passenger ships, cargo ships, fishing boats, warships and submarines, would be inevitably a place where various marine lives could grow and multiply, such as animals, plants and micro-organisms. Such process will result in great corruption of the coating of naval vessel (bilge coating), perforation or even spalling of coating, decrease in service life and strengthen the friction force of resistance between ships and water. Thus, the sailing speed would be restrained and oil use would be increased. Due to the corruption and damage of ships, maintenances are required to be carried out in advance, which will increase the cost of maintenance and decrease navigation time invisibly. In addition, the damage of facilities on docks, cooling ducts for sea water and cooling towers in power plants and props for ocean well boring level caused by attaching organisms is increasingly serious. In this case, protective measures should be in effect. One of the most effective ways to prevent the growth and multiplying of various marine lives on bilge coating surfaces is to use appropriate amount of antifoulant in the manufacturing of coating of naval vessel.
There are various kinds of antifoulants with different characteristics. In the ancient times, when people built ships with wood, they used petroleum asphalt or tar asphalt as antifloulant and in China, tung oil was often used to protect wood. With the awareness that copper has antifouling effect, people took copper to cover the bilges. Until the late 19th century, the development of chemical industry brought about various compound antifoulants with copper, mercury, lead and arsenic. In the 1950s, preflux compounds with trialkyl were used as antifoulants, including preflux compounds with tributyl, triphenyl and hydroxides with triphenyl. Later, complex antifoulant with organics and Cu2O were developed out in the 1970s. Though Cu2O is hypotoxicity,it was still poisonous to fish and after long-time use of quantities, it would produce permanent pollution in sea-bottom after precipitation and sedimentation. In the light of less antifouling effect of copper, large quantities was added to paints (20%-40%). What’s more, the color of Cu2O is darker, which limited its use in preparation of paint with undertint or multicolor. Thus, use of Cu2O would be restricted and even eliminated in long terms. In recent years, many enterprises or research institutions have been making efforts in producing a new-type antifoulant to replace Cu2O which is now widely used. However, after lots of pilot tests, no satisfying results have been found.
LY24 antifoulant for coating on naval vessel produced by our company is a kind of close-type attaching antifoulant used in paint. It is not soluble and will integrate into paint firmly. Thus, its running off in water and adhering, rooting, germination, nidation as well as absorption of various attaching organisms will be eliminated due to the deleteriousness of the antifoulant. LY24 antifoulant is prepared to aim directly at various attaching organisms in ocean. Its better and wider antibiotic effect make it a substitute for Cu2O. It is reported that there are thousands kinds of ocean attaching organisms and hundreds of them are very common. The most vicious attaching organisms are barnacle, mollusca, spongia, seaweed and micro-organisms. LY24 is designed aiming at the organisms mentioned above. |
| II.Dosage suggested: |
| The antibiotic effect of LY24 antifoulant is triplicate of Cu2O. In other words, 15% of Cu2O has the same effect as 40% of Cu2O. If 20% of Cu2O is reserved in origin compounding, 7.5% of LY24 is the best choice and other usage amount should be selected by analogy. |
| III.Announcements |
| All antifoulants are poisonous to some degree and our product is something stimulous. Before using it, protection measures should be prepared. Avoid using it to contact mouth, eyes and skin. In case of body touch, you should carry out water flush immediately. |
